Jonathan specialises in public law and commercial litigation. He was appointed Queens Counsel in 2014. He acts for and against Government agencies across the full spectrum of public law activities. He also advises and appears in a range of environmental, mining and land-related matters.
One aspect of Jonathan's practice is inquiries and reviews, many of which involve some aspect of public administration and policy. Jonathan conducted a review of The Star Casino's licence under the Casino Control Act 1992 (2016), and has acted as Counsel Assisting on many occasions, including the statutory review of the NSW Liquor Laws (2016), the Commonwealth Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program (2014) and the review of the Victorian Parole System (2013).
Before being called to the Bar in 2002, Jonathan was a solicitor with Minter Ellison Lawyers in commercial litigation and intellectual property.
Jonathan holds a PhD (Laws) from Edinburgh University, a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.
