As a revenue law specialist, Rashelle focuses on tax litigation, including tax appeals, administrative review, recovery proceedings and tax-related criminal proceedings. In addition, she advises and represents clients in matters concerning administrative law, trusts, corporate and commercial law, bankruptcy and insolvency.
Rashelle has appeared in many high-profile cases in the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the NSW Court of Appeal. In 2013, she was appointed Senior Counsel for the State of NSW, and in 2016, was named by Doyle’s Guide as a recommended Leading Taxation Senior Counsel.
Prior to joining Ground Floor Wentworth Chambers, Rashelle was a member of Sir Harry Gibbs Chambers in Queensland, a pre-eminent tax and commercial chambers where her primary focus was representative proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia together with some tax litigation.
Rashelle is a Principal Member, and member of the Appeal Panel, of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) and until recently was Head of NCAT’s Revenue List.
Previous experience includes serving as Associate to a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, and as an investment banker with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and State Bank of Victoria. In these latter roles, she developed considerable expertise in fixed interest securities, structured finance, derivatives and other financial products.
Rashelle holds Master of Taxation, Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours), and Bachelor of Science degrees. She also holds a Mediator's Certificate from the Dispute Resolution Centre, Bond University and has attended the LEADR advanced mediation workshop.
