David is internationally recognised and lauded as a leading taxation specialist.
He was awarded the Tax Institute’s inaugural Chartered Tax Adviser of the Year in 2014, has been listed in the Taxation Category in the Australian Financial Review/Best Lawyers review of the Australian Legal Profession since 2008 and since 2017 has been listed as a member of Legal Weeks Private Client Global Elite.
Having received numerous accolades, David was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to taxation law and legal education and gained international recognition by being awarded the Order of the Rising Sun with Gold Rays and Neck Ribbon for services to Australia-Japan relations. He was also awarded Reserve Force Decoration (Award 1987, First Clasp 1992, Second Clasp 1997) and has been listed in ‘Who’s Who’ in Australia from 1997 to present.
Possessing a strong national and international presence, David acts for Commonwealth and State Governments, as well as individuals and corporations. He also acts for clients throughout Europe, Middle East and United States, giving him a true global perspective. He currently practises in Sydney (Ground Floor Wentworth Chambers), Brisbane (Sir Harry Gibbs Chambers), Dubai, London, New York and Abu Dhabi (Outer Temple Chambers), and is an associate member of chambers in Auckland (Shortland Chambers).
David has lectured and written extensively on taxation-related topics in Australia and overseas and served as a member of the Advisory Editorial Board of Australian Tax Practice. He has lectured at the University of Sydney for the Master of Taxation course, the University of Queensland for the Master of Laws course and served as an Adjunct Professor of the University of Queensland. He was the Australian correspondent for Trusts & Trustees and is currently co-editor.
He was Chairman of STEP Australia from 2012 to 2016, a member of the STEP WorldWide Council from 2012, inaugural Chair of the STEP International Client Special Interest Group from 2014 to 2018, a director of STEP WorldWide from 2017 and Deputy Chair from 2018.
