Called to the Bar in 2019, Oliver practices in Commonwealth and State taxation law, Aboriginal land claims, succession law and consumer and competition disputes. He represents both private clients and State authorities in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Appeals Tribunal and the Supreme Court of NSW (including Land and Environment Court).
Prior to coming to the bar, he held a number of senior leadership and technical roles at Revenue NSW (formerly known as the Office of State Revenue) and has over 18 years of experience in State tax law.
In addition to being skilled in the litigation and the appeals process, he has extensive experience in private rulings, objections and the payroll tax audit process with revenue offices, particularly in the field of payroll tax, transfer duty, land tax and surcharge (transfer duty and land tax) provisions.
He is a committee member of the Taxation Institute of Australia / Revenue NSW Liaison Committee and is a lecturer at Macquarie University teaching law and conveyancing students revenue and taxation law.
