Justen accepts briefs in administrative law, commercial, equity and trusts, and taxation and revenue law.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Justen worked as a technical advisor in the Tax Counsel Network at the Australian Taxation Office. He has over 15 years of experience in relation to a range of federal income tax issues.
Justen’s experience includes the taxation of trusts, corporate taxation, the taxation of financial services entities (banking and insurance), the application of general and specific anti-avoidance provisions, and foreign resident withholding taxes.
Justen also obtained experience of law design and policy while on secondment to the Department of Treasury as a Policy Analyst. From 2018-2020 Justen was a member of the ATO Secretariat for the National Tax Liaison Group.
Justen holds a Master of Laws from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Technology, Sydney. He has given presentations for the Tax Institute, the Law Society of NSW, the Queensland Law Society, and the Law Society of Western Australia.
