Tim specialises in revenue law and legal matters relating to business entity and financial instrument valuation.
His in-depth knowledge is bolstered by his extensive banking industry experience acquired from over 18 years based in London, New York and parts of continental Europe. Working on cross-border investment, trading and financial transactions in these international capital markets, Tim focused on arrangements giving rise to difficult questions of international taxation law.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Tim provided commercial advice to Commonwealth Treasury, as part of a specialist task force. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales and has completed a Masters of Taxation, also through UNSW, where he graduated first in his year. Tim has lectured in Masters course taxation subjects at the same university and has written professional articles on Australian taxation law which have been published in Australian Tax Review, Australian Tax Forum and The Tax Specialist. Tim is also the co-author of the Australian CGT Handbook published annually by Thomson Reuters.
Tim is briefed regularly to provide dispute resolution and technical quantitative advice to taxpayers, small and medium sized accounting and law firms as well as regulators such as the Commissioner of Taxation and Revenue NSW.
Following the retirement of several senior colleagues, Tim has become the proud owner of a library of the annual editions of the Income Tax Assessment Acts stretching back to 1970.
